Somehow the photographer was just the right distance away that the blast didn’t harm him nor his film. What is most remarkable is that the three people in the foreground are still unaware that anything has happened at all.
The destruction of Nagasaki followed three days after that of Hiroshima on 9 August 1945, and was the act that finally compelled Japan to surrender, ending World War II.
